Challenge Graciously Accepted

The Suffern High School robotics team has qualified to compete in the FTC World Championship Robotics Competition in St. Louis, MO in April, 2016!  We are writing to invite you to help us send the students and their robots to represent New York’s Hudson Valley at this very prestigious competition comprised of over 128 teams from around the world.

The mission of the FIRST program is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills.  These skills inspire innovation and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.  More information about the FIRST program is available at their website:

This year’s FTC Tech Challenge theme is “FIRST RES-Q”, which requires the students to design and program a robot that is modeled after rescue situations faced by mountain explorers all over the globe.  Played by two Alliances of two robots each, robots will score points by: “resetting” Rescue beacons; delivering Rescue Climbers to a shelter; parking on the mountain; and parking in the Rescue beacon repair zone or floor goal.  The students’ website,, has more information about their activities.  The students have worked extremely hard and created three different robots that competed against other teams throughout the tri-state area.  Each of these robots placed in the top positions in competition and various judged categories, earning one of them the spot in the East Super-Regional.

This is not only a great opportunity, but also a testament to the student’s knowledge and application of technology and its capabilities.  The regular operations of the Robotics Team have been generously supported by the Ramapo Central School District but travel expenses are not included in that budget.  Your support is critical and your generous donation will allow the students to focus on preparing for the competition rather than on how they will get there.

Donations may be made to the “Suffern Syborgs Robotics Team” and sent to Coach George Mugno, Suffern High School, 49 Viola Rd., Suffern NY 10901 or through our website at

We are also interested in developing long-term relationships with area engineers, scientists and other business and community leaders.  If you are interested in learning how you can be involved as a mentor or volunteer, please let us know as we welcome the opportunity of growing our syborg family.

We are very proud of the enthusiasm and dedication shown by these students.  We thank you in advance for your support and for helping our students and robots represent New York’s Hudson Valley!

We are an approved 501(c)(3) Non-profit Organization and your donations are tax deductible learn more here
